#MAKETHECUT DONATION DRIVE

Spring 2016

The GCMSA helped raise awareness of child neglect and abuse in the upstate area by raising over $5000 for Serenity Place, a mission dedicated to reducing addiction as the leading cause of child neglect and family collapse. 2015-16 GCMSA President Erica Kelly grew out her hair during the Alliance year with a promise that if she raised enough money by April - Child Abuse and Neglect Awareness Month - she would chop it all off. Donations were made directly to the organization through the GCMSA website using PayPal. It was a fun, low cost and effective way to not only raise money for Serenity Place, but also to raise awareness of our local Alliance in order to grow membership.

The GCMSA was honored to accept the prestigious 2016 American Medical Association Alliance (AMAA) Health Awareness Promotion (HAP) Award for a SAVE (Stop America’s Violence Everywhere) Program at the AMAA Annual Meeting in Chicago on behalf of their work with this project. They also accepted the 2016 South Carolina Medical Association Alliance Health Awareness Promotion (HAP) Award for SAVE/Fundraising.
