Members of the Greenville community came together to raise $20K in support of Jasmine Road at this one-of-a-kind fundraising fitness and dance party, “Club Spandex - Sweat for a Cause.”

While a seemingly formal event, all attendees wore “athletic-chic” attire and rocked out to fun music on the dance floor. Guests participated in raffles for prizes, a silent auction, and enjoyed food from Jasmine Road’s social enterprise lunch café, Jasmine Kitchen. Speakers from Jasmine Road and special guests joined the event to help educate about the realities of human trafficking and sexual exploitation for women in Greenville and beyond, highlighting why programs like Jasmine Road are critical and beneficial for these women and our communities.

Jasmine Road is a local residential treatment and rehabilitation facility for victims of sex trafficking, prostitution, addiction and homelessness. Their mission is to offer women who are trapped in a cycle of sexual exploitation and addiction a path to freedom, a haven for healing, and the opportunity to flourish, leading to generational change and the betterment of our Greenville community.

The $20,000 donated from Club Spandex will be used to support the case management of survivors coming into Jasmine Road's two-year residential program with the expansion and opening of a second residential home. Jasmine Road provides case management for women survivors with an individualized care plan and free restoration services (mental/physical/dental healthcare, spiritual care, addiction recovery, continuing education opportunities, job training and employment, financial sustainability, and necessary life skills) providing a pathway for women to heal mind, body and spirit and reintegrate back into our community. JR’s holistic approach to programming, which relies on more than 50 community partners, combined with employment opportunities that teach residents transferable job and soft skills, significantly reduces the likelihood that women would return to life on the streets.

Jasmine Kitchen is part of an innovative Social Enterprise Program that supports the mission of Jasmine Road by providing jobs in a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment for the residents and graduates of the two-year residential program. Women may choose to work at the restaurant or employment by making candles and jewelry to earn money, develop new skills, learn entrepreneurship, and build their resumes. The social enterprise businesses have a primary emphasis on social impact in our community at large while helping to fund operations of the non-profit organization.

Club Spandex Chair, Elsbeth Chaney, joined Jasmine Road Operations Director, Tory Nicolay, on the Moms on the Move Podcast on March 15, 2022 to discuss Jasmine Road and the Club Spandex event.

WYFF News 4 highlighted the Club Spandex event, interviewing Beth Messick, Jasmine Road Executive Director, in their Sweat for a Cause segment on March 24, 2022.

The GCMSA wishes to express their gratitude to Upstate Carolina Radiology, Greenville County Medical Society, Nachman Norwood & Parrott, Diamonds Direct, Palmetto Mortuary, Topgolf, QuikTrip, Sportsclub Fitness & Wellness, as well as many other in-kind donors for their generosity in helping to make this event happen.
