ROCK WITH THE DOCS

Physician bands battle it out on stage to raise over $60K to create a child development center for struggling families at Front Porch Housing.

It was an unforgettable night of music and friendly competition, as local physician bands from the Upstate of South Carolina battled it out on stage to showcase their talent and help raise funds for Front Porch Housing’s programs and outreach.

This event took place at Front Porch Housing (FPH), a three-year supportive housing program designed to offer individuals and families who are trapped in a cycle of poverty, addiction, exploitation, and suffering, a path to build a firm foundation, continued sobriety, gainful employment, financial independence, and spiritual maturity, leading to generational change and the betterment of our Greenville community. In addition to affordable housing for more than 250 adults and 150 children, FPH provides supportive services including medical and dental care, counseling, drug screening, education and employment support, and life-skills classes.

Rock with the Docs not only raised funds, the event was inclusive and inviting of the residents of FPH. It was alcohol-free, to align with the sober-living community, and meal tickets were provided for all Front Porch Housing residents. This outdoor concert featured two stages set up in the courtyard of FPH with lawn seating in the middle. We had five amazing bands - RadDad, GreenLight Savoy, Musicians in Medicine, The Rent, and Steve Eager and Friends - each having at least one local physician or physician-in-training member. Sydney Shadrix from WYFF4 News warmed up the crowd between acts during the battle. Delicious food was provided by the food trucks of Local Pie, Cluck Truck, Dos Bros Tacos, and Chocolate Artworks. Each food truck donated a percent of their proceeds or a certain number of resident meals to the event. There was also an expansive silent auction and raffle selection.

Over 300 community members and sponsors attended this event. In addition, 281 FPH residents participated in the event. Residents of FPH have shared that Rock with the Docs was so meaningful and they were grateful to get to be a part of it and see the support of the community. The self-proclaimed “Greatest Cover Band in the Upstate,” RadDad, with Dr. Matt Crumpler on the guitar, took home the coveted trophy for the night. Thanks to our amazing sponsors, partners, and attendees, the GCMSA was able to donate a total of $60,106 to FPH and provide 281 meals to FPH residents (valued at $3,200). This money will be used to aid in the building of an on-site child development center and dental clinic. Additionally, the winning bands were able to choose a GCMSA health charity to donate to, which gave $1,500 to the Greenville Free Medical Clinic.
